Body mass index.

BMI is weight in kilograms divided by height in metres squared. Categories follow the usual WHO bands. It does not know muscle, age, or South Asian cut-offs. It is a screening number.

Worked example: 70 kg at 1.70 m. BMI is 70 / (1.70 × 1.70) ≈ 24.2, which sits in the WHO “normal” band. Indian clinical practice often treats a lower cut-off as overweight. This tool does not apply that cut-off.
